We are in a prime location on Michigan Avenue overlooking Grant Park, near The Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, The Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, Navy Pier and all the shops, shows, architecture and delights of the Magnificent Mile.

Driving directions to Chicago’s Essex Inn

Getting to us—driving south

On Lake Shore Drive (Route 41), stay in the right lane and turn right at Balbo. Continue driving for another two blocks to Michigan Avenue and make a left turn. Chicago’s Essex Inn is located on the corner of 8th Street and Michigan Avenue. The parking garage is adjacent to us on 8th Street.

Getting to us—driving north

On Lake Shore Drive (Route 41), stay in the left lane and turn left at Balbo. Continue driving for another two blocks to Michigan Avenue and make a left turn. Chicago’s Essex Inn is located on the corner of 8th Street and Michigan Avenue. The parking garage is adjacent to us on 8th Street.

Getting to us—driving east

On the Stevenson (Route 55), continue on the Stevenson as it merges with Lake Shore Drive. Drive north on Lake Shore Drive (Route 41), stay in the left lane and turn left at Balbo. Continue driving for two blocks to Michigan Avenue and make a left turn. Chicago’s Essex Inn is located on the corner of 8th Street and Michigan Avenue. The parking garage is adjacent to us on 8th Street.

Getting to us—driving west

On the Dan Ryan Expressway (90/94), exit Congress Parkway East (follow signs for 290-Eisenhower Expressway—Chicago Loop). Follow Congress Parkway to Michigan Avenue, turn right on Michigan Avenue. The Essex Inn is three blocks south on the right side of the street, at the corner of 8th Street and Michigan Avenue. The parking garage is adjacent to us on 8th Street.

Getting to us —from the Kennedy Expressway (I-94)

Exit at Congress Parkway east. Take Congress Parkway to Michigan Avenue. Turn right on Michigan Avenue. The Essex Inn is three blocks south on the right side of the street, at the corner of 8th Street and Michigan Avenue. The parking garage is adjacent to us on 8th Street.

Getting to us —from the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290)

I-290 turns into Congress Parkway. Follow Congress Parkway east to Michigan Avenue. Turn right on Michigan Avenue. The Essex Inn is three blocks south on the right side of the street, at the corner of 8th Street and Michigan Avenue. The parking garage is adjacent to us on 8th Street.

Getting to us —Chicago Midway Airport (MDW)

Head North on SR-50/S Cicero Ave. Continue to I-55 and head northbound. I-55 merges with Lake Shore Drive. Continue on Lake Shore Drive and exit at Roosevelt Street, turning left onto Roosevelt. Take a right onto Michigan Avenue and proceed to the hotel on the left, at the corner of 8th Street and Michigan Avenue. The parking garage is adjacent to us on 8th Street.

Getting to us —O’Hare International Airport (ORD)

Head east on I-190. Continue east on I-90/Kennedy Expressway. Next take I-290 east (Eisenhower Expressway) toward the Chicago Loop. The Eisenhower Expressway becomes the Congress Parkway. Continue east on Congress Parkway. Turn right onto Michigan Avenue and proceed to the hotel on the right, at the corner of 8th Street and Michigan Avenue. The parking garage is adjacent to us on 8th Street.

Directions to CTA Trains from the Essex Inn and Michigan Avenue:

O’Hare—Red Line (transfer to Blue Line at Jackson stop)

  1. Walk 2 blocks west to State
  2. Walk 2 blocks north to Harrison

O’Hare—Blue Line (this an alternate route to starting at the red line and transferring to the blue line)

  1. Walk 5 blocks north to Jackson
  2. Walk 3 blocks west to Dearborn

Midway—Orange Line

  1. Walk 2 blocks west to State
  2. Walk 3 blocks south to Roosevelt
